The Top 25 Greatest Foodie Shows Ever!
Congratulations are in order for Chef Eddie Huang, whose memoir Fresh off the Boat has been picked up by ABC. The TV show adaption will be a comedy about an immigrant family making it in America. To celebrate Huang and his addition to the food television cannon, here are our top 25 foodie shows.
1. Barefoot Contessa, Food Network
This show is relaxing, has nice color palette and it’s fun to twist the perfectly innocent dinner parties and lunches Ina throws into “why are there so many men when Jeffrey isn’t home” discussions.
2. Unwrapped, Food Network
It’s something to hold your attention while you wait for Barefoot Contessa to come on. Plus, all of the talk about quality control makes you believe that the junk food you eat won’t kill you one day.
3. 30 Minute Meals, Food Network
Rachael Ray is polarizing. You either think her meals are homey and delicious and her kitchen adorable, or her dishes sloppy and her kitchen garish. Whatever your stance, she’s made it this long. Credit is due.
4. Raw, Vegan, Not Gross, YouTube Channel Tastemade
Host Laura Miller is relentlessly charming even when she’s cutting herself and dropping things.
5. The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Food Network
This show will make you ravenous and disheartened that your dinner will not compare, but it’s glorious nonetheless.
6. Amazing Wedding Cakes, WE tv
The cakes are impressive and look like they wouldn’t taste terrible once the fondant comes off.
7. Food Network Challenge, Food Network
The contestants build the biggest, grandest showstoppers with fireworks and sugar flowers, only to risk dropping them on the perilous walk to the judges table. Oh the suspense!
8. My Drunk Kitchen, YouTube channel MyHarto
Alcohol and puns.
9. You Deserve a Drink, YouTube channel Mamrie Hart
Alcohol and dirty puns.
10. Original Iron Chef, Fine Living Network
This magnificent program filled with exotic ingredients, incredible chefs and subtitles used to air on the Food Network. Iron Chef America may have been enough to placate the masses, but it can’t hold a candle to the original in our hearts and our minds.
11. Sweet Genius, Food Network
This confection is delightful up until the end, and then Chef Ron has nothing left to do but gaze affectionately at the winner while they try to maintain the excitement of winning. It’s awkward.
12. Everyday Italian, Food Network
We don’t think sweet potato is the same thing to us as it is to Giada De Laurentiis, but she relishes food like no other.
13. Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Travel Channel
Bourdain’s biting personality is charming (to some), and you can travel vicariously through him.
14. Bizarre Foods, Travel Channel
With no more new episodes of No Reservations, Bizarre Foods will keep you warm at night.
15. Kitchen Nightmares, Fox
If you only watch one episode of this show, watch the Amy’s Baking Company episode and let the train wreck soothe your sadistic soul.
16. RRcherrypie, YouTube
Watching unidentified hands meticulously assemble animal shaped treats from Japanese candy-making kits will put you in a hypnotic trance.
17. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Pizza appears on the show often, so it counts.
18. Golden Girls
Or more aptly titled “Cheesecake solves the romantic relationship problems for four vital middle aged gals living in Miami.”
19. My Virgin Kitchen, YouTube channel Barry Lewis
He made a giant Reese’s peanut butter cup — enough said.
20. Yoyomax12, Youtube
She has an entire playlist devoted to rainbow food tutorials. Everything on it is beautiful and can make a grown man weep.
21. Chopped, Foodnetwork
This show will make you feel like the greatest chef/food critic there ever was when you declare all of the ways you would have handled the items in the mystery basket better than the professionals.
22. Cupcake Wars, Food Network
The cupcakes are darling and you’ll get some aggression out yelling at the screen when the contestants wait too long to get their cupcakes in the oven. And you’ll feel quite smug when they don’t have enough time to cool their cupcakes and the frosting melts and slides off. They should’ve listened to you.
23. Man v. Food, Travel Channel
Your inner glutton will finally be satiated.
24. Restaurant Impossible, Food Network
There are enough filthy kitchens, petty fights and clueless, arrogant chefs and owners to make the touching moments and happy tears worth sitting through.
25. Good Eats, Food Network
The best food show ever (don’t argue). It’s infinitely more entertaining than science and history classes, and you’ll probably learn more from the show anyway. It also has the only Thanksgiving turkey recipe. That bird is everything.
